In the summer of 2013 I studied at Exeter College in Oxford. In this program several opportunities came up to take bookish trips and discover book-related places. Here are some of the few places I have seen. Unfortunately I could not take pictures inside of the British Library but I got a chance to see the Beowulf Manuscript (Cotton MS Vitellius A XV). I also explored several other bookstores in Oxford which I did not photograph including the Alice in Wonderland bookstore which even had a copy of Alice in Wonderland in nychtograph format. Needless to say there were countless Harry Potter tours throughout the colleges where I poked my head in from time to time, as well as His Dark Materials trilogy tours of the theatre. The four main places you will see pictures from are: Oxford, London, Winchester, and Stratford. Most of my time was spent at Oxford where I was studying and so I ended up visiting many museums and art galleries where there were items from Darwin, Einstein, and Lewis Carroll. I did not get to see nearly half the things I wanted to and I must go back! One day! If I could go again I would like to travel further north and do a Bronte/Austen trip. I did manage to get kicked out of the Eagle and Child bar because I didn’t have my passport on me and as it turns out you need serious ID even if you only want to get a Coca-Cola in the middle of the day. Passport to a bar? I don’t think so. But hey, I now get to say “I was kicked out of a bar” (no one has to know why, right?)
